Participatory 3D Mapping of Local Natural Resources

The Igbaras Credit Cooperative has adopted Brgy. Igcabugao in the Muncipality of Igbaras, Iloilo to support the development of eco-tourism, livelihood, and conservation efforts of the community. As part of their initial steps, they sought the expertise of Green Forum Panay Guimaras to facilitate the Participatory Three-Dimensional Mapping, ensuring a sustainable approach to community-led environmental management using a NAMRIA topographic map, scaled at 1:10,000 vertically and 1:7,500 horizontally.

Completed in just three days with active participation from community volunteers, the project enhanced local knowledge by offering a bird’s eye view of their environment. Participants identified key landmarks, watercourses, and trails, making the 3D map a valuable tool for Barangay Action Plans, Disaster Risk Reduction Management, and Local Climate Change Action Plans (LCCAP).

Through hands-on involvement, volunteers developed a strong sense of ownership and a deeper appreciation for their natural resources, recognizing opportunities for conservation and sustainable development.
