The Province of Antique in Western Visayas is rich in natural resources, boasting towering mountains, diverse flora and fauna, and abundant rivers. Recognizing the province’s potential for renewable energy, Green Forum Panay Guimaras Inc. initiated a Mini Hydro Powerplant Feasibility Study and Energy Assessment in Brgy. Lublob, Municipality of Valderrama, Antique. This study aims to harness the power of the Kangaranan River to provide clean, sustainable, and cost-effective energy that supports local development and contributes to achieving net-zero emissions.
The pre-feasibility study included a detailed assessment of river flow rate and site inspections to determine suitable locations for key infrastructure components such as the weir, headrace, penstock, and powerhouse. Community engagement was a crucial part of the process, with active participation from indigenous peoples, local community members, village officials, and the local government. Through consultations, the project ensured that the perspectives of all stakeholders were considered, fostering community ownership and long-term sustainability. By exploring the potential of mini-hydro power, this initiative moves Antique towards a future of energy independence and environmental stewardship.
